Michael Smith of Carbon Express in Land-O-Lakes, Florida, has been fabricating very minimalistic ankle foot orthoses using carbon fiber. Michael’s core business is central fabrication of low extremity orthotics using carbon fiber. The pictured ankle foot orthosis (AFO) includes Tamarack™ Dorsi Assist Flexure Joints.
Orthotists commonly use Tamarack Dorsi-Assist joints in AFOs intended for people who need assistance dorsiflexing the ankle. This might be a person, for example, who has drop foot.
Practitioners have reported to Michael that patients like the open design because heat is more easily dissipated.

Hello,
Thank you for your reply on our blog post. Tamarack Habilitation Technologies manufactures the orthotic joints used in AFO’s and other upper and lower extremity orthoses, but we don’t fabricate or fit them ourselves. I recommend finding an orthotist in your area who can answer your questions and make sure you get the device you need.
Best of luck,

Hello, thank you for reaching out to us! Unfortunately, we do not fabricate any AFO’s. We only manufacture the Tamarack Joints that go into the AFO’s. My recommendation would be to reach out to your Doctor and bring this option up to them to see if it would be a good fit for you.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
