The Prescription Foot Orthotic Laboratory Association PFOLA is having their annual conference in Atlanta from October 2 to 4, 2009. The focus of the conference is Foot Biomechanics and Orthotic Therapy. Douglas Richie, Jr., DPM, is going to be chairing a panel on postural control interventions. This is an area of increasing research in the orthotics and prosthetics field especially for the ankle foot orthosis (AFO). See, for example, Brehm MA, Harlaar J, Schwartz M, Effect of ankle-foot orthoses on walking efficiency and gait in children with cerebral palsy. The Journal of Rehabilitation Medicine. 2008 Jul;40(7):529-34. Here’s the link to the program for the PFOLA 2009 Biomechanics Conference.
