Yesterday I took the opportunity to watch a screening of Running America, hosted by the Winona County Historical Society and Marshall & Heather Ulrich. I had expected a documentary about the immense challenge of a 3,000+ mile trans-continental run by two incredible ultra distance athletes. But what the documentary actually delivers is much more than advanced running techniques.
When Marshall Ulrich began planning and training for Running America 08, he had no idea that the U.S. economy and thousands of secure businesses would soon begin spiraling out of control. While Ulrich laced up to run across the USA, a film crew tagged along to document the attitudes of dozens of Americans as he made his way from San Francisco to New York.
Running America documents the physical and emotional challenges of running, coupled with the insightful and humbling opinions of Americans struggling to survive.
