According to the American Diabetes Association, diabetes is a disease that affects more than 23.6 million Americans (roughly 7.2% of the population). It’s a disease that’s not fully understood, although proper nutrition, insulin management and foot care go a long way to ensure that children and adults living with the disease can live a happy, healthy life.

Diabetes awareness programs such as the American Diabetes Association’s “Step Out” program foster a better understanding of the disease by bringing people together to fight for a cure. With over 150 “Step Out” programs across the United States, there’s a way for each of us to help out – whether by participating in an organized event or by donating money to the association.
